How are Tattoos Removed?
Lasers produce results far superior to previous methods of Tattoo Removal. The most advanced laser available for the removal of tattoos is the Medlite IVTM1 laser. The Medlite laser is a Q-Switched ND Yag laser that uses the energy of light to remove tattoos and pigmented brown spots, such as birthmarks. The Medlite laser is the only laser that treats the full spectrum of colors found in tattoos. The Medlite laser is the most powerful and effective laser and produces faster results with fewer treatments than other available lasers.
Medlite Laser
The Medlite laser removes ink in tattoos by using a unique wavelength of light, pulsed with a very short duration and high intensity that passes through the skin only to be absorbed by the tattoo ink. As the ink rapidly absorbs the laser’s light energy, it breaks into tiny particles that are eliminated by the body’s natural filtering systems.
The number and success of treatments vary from patient to patient and are affected by the actual inks used in the tattoo more than 100 inks, none regulated by the FDA, have been used for tattoos. In many cases the tattoo will completely disappear, and in most cases greater than 95% fading of the tattoo will be achieved. Also, just as importantly, the skin surrounding the tattoo will be unharmed.
The type, amount, and skin depth of the inks used in a tattoo determines the number of treatments required. An additional factor is whether a professional or an amateur applied the tattoo. Tattoos applied by a professional usually have more ink and penetrate more deeply into the skin than amateur tattoos. Typically, removal of professional tattoos requires greater than six treatments and removal of amateur tattoos requires three to six treatments, with each treatment spaced six to eight weeks apart. Topical anesthetic creams are applied to the area to be treated, thus minimizing treatment discomfort.
